Marketing a Small Business

Here's what the project involved

Bromley Blinds have been a full content marketing client since April 2014; my role for them includes: Blogging for Business; Social Media Management; Copywriting for digital and print; Digital Community Management and Creative Content Consultancy.

My first task was to develop and introduce a brand new blog for their website. I worked closely with a developer to create the site and wrote and optimised the copy. The blog re-launched the Bromley Blinds brand online and evoked interest in the business right from the start. I ensure the blog is updated weekly, adding information on products, new offers and interiors features, as well as showcasing recent design projects. I overhauled the brand photography and imagery for use both online and in print. I control all marketed visuals for the brand, editing and designing imagery myself. I also project manage the fittings teams to produce any photo shoots that are required.

Social media is a key part of the Bromley Blinds brand. I manage all social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest) and create all content for the brand. As well as growing audience numbers, I also moderate comments and provide online customer service. There are offline aspects of my content marketing role as well. I also launched the brand at the London Business Awards, in which they were selected as finalists for two categories. Press opportunities are important too; I use my media connections to secure features that have resulted in great exposure for the business.

I manage the Bromley Blinds brand on a competitive budget and almost all the marketing I undertake is completely organic; there is no social advertising, just engaging content! With sales completely exceeding expected targets, the growth of the brand in just 8 months has been phenomenal; I can’t wait to see how it further develops!

What the client had to say...

  • I had no idea how important Social Media and Blogging are to a business such as mine, until I met Lucy.

If I am honest, I felt that we were really good at presenting ourselves and our products on our website and through Google. We had a Facebook page, but never really had the time to use it, and we had a blog entry page, which was hardly used. I had heard of Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, but as a child of the 60’s thought these were things that would add to our increasing workload without any value, how wrong I was.

It has been so easy working with Lucy. Obviously there is some information that you will need to gather to start with, but she makes it easy as she learns all about your business with you. This is important, as she takes the work away from you on a day to day basis. She is a very quick learner. Our business has been represented in an amazing way since she started and that is because she has taken the time to learn all about us and the way we work.

Our blogs have more than exceeded my expectations. Shouting about my business every week,  from our own website and then through social media, has been a total revelation, and our customers notice it. We agreed a monthly budget, and Lucy always goes beyond the call of duty for us. She has got involved in advertising campaigns and lay outs of ads, as well as a massive PR opportunity which has resulted in us sponsoring 2 football teams. This on top of all the regular Facebook, Twitter feed,  Instagram etc.

I am proud of the quality products and service that my business provides.  Getting that message across to customers in a clear and coherent way is vital as we trade in a very crowded marketplace. Without Lucy’s efforts there is no way we would be as successful as we are now. Big companies have huge social media departments that communicate with their customers daily. We have our own Social Media department now, with low overheads and frankly a lot more effective.

I cannot recommend this service more highly to any small business.
